Designation as an Excellent Medical Tourism Attraction Institution: Requirements and Application — Invitation Record and Electronic Visa Benefits

Procedure

1. 1. Check eligibility to apply

   The applicant must be a medical institution attracting foreign patients or an attraction business operator registered under the Act on Support for Overseas Expansion of Healthcare System and Attraction of International Patients (the Medical Overseas Expansion Act). Under the 2026 public notice, the record of inviting foreigners through medical tourism visas in the previous year must be 30 cases or more, and the standards for the period elapsed since registration and for the actual number of persons attracted are also set by the public notice.

2. 2. Check grounds for disqualification

   You cannot apply if there is a recent administrative sanction or a history of an earlier designation being revoked. The period standard is set in each year's public notice, so check it in the original text of the notice.

3. 3. Organize the performance materials

   The evaluation gives scores for the illegal stay rate of invited patients and for the invitation and attraction record. The actual number of persons counts the same patient only once, so prepare a list with duplicates removed, and also confirm whether the invited patients have departed from Korea.

4. 4. Apply within the notice period

   Submit the application form, the business plan and materials on excellent attraction cases within the period and by the method set in the public notice. A closing time is fixed, so finish the submission by the day before.

5. 5. Management after designation

   The designation results are usually announced by public notice in September. Even after designation, the designation may be revoked if illegal stay by invited patients increases, so continue to manage the departure of patients.
