D-8 Corporate Investment Visa Extension of Stay — 3 Points Reviewed and Documents to Prepare
A holder of a D-8 corporate investment visa must obtain permission for extension before the period of stay ends. The review looks at whether the company is actually doing business (business results), whether the invested capital is maintained (whether there is capital impairment), and whether the representative's personal income meets the standard. Insufficient results do not lead to immediate denial, but the extension period is often short, so it is better to check the financial position first, before expiry.
Procedure
1. Check the financial position 3 months before expiry
Check the sales trend with the certificate of VAT tax base and the summary of electronic tax invoices, and check for capital impairment with the financial statements. Also review the representative's certificate of income for the previous year. If shortfalls are found at this stage, you can prepare explanatory materials before applying for the extension.
2. Organize the documents proving the place of stay and the business premises
Prove the place of stay with a lease contract or a Confirmation of Residence/Accommodation form, and the business premises with a lease contract for independent business premises and the records of rent transfers. There must be a record of the rent being transferred from the corporate bank account, and cash payments are hard to prove. If the place of stay has changed, process the change together with the extension.
3. Submit the extension application and the requirements guidance confirmation
Submit the integrated application form, the passport and residence card, the corporate register certificate and other documents, together with the D-8 and D-9 (Trade Management) extension requirements guidance confirmation (written pledge). The pledge states that the extension may be denied if poor business results, unsound capital or personal income below the standard continues for 1 year or more.
4. Check the result and prepare for the next extension
If the requirements are met, processing may finish quickly, but if results are insufficient, the extension is often granted in short periods of 6 months. If you receive a short extension, it is important to build up the sales and income records before the next application.
