How to Apply for Green Certification — Requirements for Green Technology, Green Technology Products and Green Specialized Enterprises

Procedure

1. 1. Deciding the purpose and type of certification

   Green certification is not so much a system that gives subsidies directly to companies as one linked to support for investment in green fields. Decide whether you will use it for attracting investment, as evidence in bids or as evaluation material for support programs, and choose the type you need among technology, product and enterprise.

2. 2. Checking the requirements for green technology certification

   The technology applied for must fall within a green technology field specified in the Operating Guidelines for the Green Certification System, and you must hold the intellectual property rights or a license for that technology. If a patent is jointly owned by several persons, a written consent of the co-owners is required.

3. 3. Checking the requirements for product and specialized enterprise confirmation

   For green technology product confirmation, the product must be a commercialized product applying a technology that has obtained green technology certification or for which certification is applied at the same time. Submit production evidence such as a factory registration certificate, direct production confirmation certificate or contract manufacturing agreement, together with certificates related to quality management. For green specialized enterprise confirmation, 1 year must have passed since the company was founded and sales related to certified green technology must be at least a certain percentage of total sales.

4. 4. Preparing application documents and evaluation

   Apply with a technology description, commercialization results and intellectual property materials. Evaluation consists of a document evaluation and an on-site evaluation, and a presentation evaluation is added if necessary. Green specialized enterprise confirmation proceeds without an on-site evaluation.

5. 5. Management after certification

   A green technology certificate and a green specialized enterprise confirmation certificate are valid for 4 years from the date of issuance and can be extended once for another 4 years if the application is made no later than 3 months before expiry. Green technology product confirmation is valid until the end of the remaining period of the relevant technology certification.

• Product confirmation: production evidence such as a factory registration certificate, direct production confirmation certificate or contract manufacturing agreement, and certificates related to quality management
• Specialized enterprise confirmation: financial statements and proof of sales related to green technology
• Business registration certificate and certificate of registered matters of the corporation

Fees

The green certification application fee is paid separately to the operating agency by type of certification. In the industry, fees for preparing application documents range from several hundred thousand won to several million won and vary with the length of the technology description and the scope of support for the evaluation.
